How to know God

By Web Team | Grow

Having a Bible and reading it is only the beginning of knowing God. We need to understand some key truths about God before getting to know him. Let’s at 3 of those truths.

The first is God’s purpose for us is Eternal Life. John 3:16 says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

God loves you and created you for a purpose: to know Him and have a personal, eternal relationship with Him.

In John 10:10, Jesus says, "My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

Second, let’s talk about what separates us from God.

People miss the life God intends for them because they choose to go their way and fall short of his perfect standard. Defying God in this way is called it separates us from God and prevents us from having a relationship with him.

Sin is so radically opposed to God's perfect character that it requires the most extreme penalty: death and eternal separation from God.

As Paul says in Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Further in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So, this brings us to the third truth about God and how He solves the problem of sin and our inability to obtain eternal life?

The answer is He gave us JESUS CHRIST.

We cannot make our way to God the Father through our own imperfect efforts. So God Himself chose to provide the perfect payment for sin.

He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place, bridging the gap between Himself and humanity. We can only come to God on His terms.

In John 14:6, Jesus answers Thomas’s question about how to get to the Father with "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
